Born in 1989, Joe Kenney is a musical artist whose creative output is marked by stylistic eclecticism. Kenney’s debut album, “Afflictions and Remedies” (2015), is a solo piano undertaking that is both reflective of his extensive classical training and representative of a fusion of jazz, blues, r&b, and classical styles. His followup album, "1.5" (2016), features alt rock and popular covers.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Kenney studied jazz and classical piano from age six, eventually taking pre-college masterclasses at Curtis Institute of Music and receiving a BM in Piano Performance from West Chester University of PA. His penchant for writing and performing such varied material extends beyond solo piano performance experience and comes, in part, from Kenney’s early exposure to accompanying roles with vocal /instrumental soloists, lead composer roles in independent theatrical productions, and involvement in original and cover rock bands.
On the heels of his two CD releases in the past year, Kenney currently performs as a soloist and with his original jazz fusion trio, the Joe Kenney Band. The group has an active touring schedule at festivals and jazz/blues clubs in the Greater Philadelphia. The Joe Kenney Band is also in the process of tracking an album that hopes to replicate and build on the success of Kenney’s first two albums.
